ERP, MES, and Mobility Expertise: T.CON at the 2013 International Converting Exhibition

Plattling, March 8, 2013

Plattling-based SAP developer and SAP Gold Channel Partner T.CON GmbH & Co. KG will be present at the International Converting Exhibition (ICE Europe), a trade fair devoted to companies involved in converting paper, film, and foil. The event will be taking place at the Messe München exhibition grounds in Munich between March 19 and March 21, 2013. The company will be showcasing its integral SAP consulting, solution, and service portfolio for the converting industry at Hall 6, Booth 344.

During the exhibition, T.CON will focus on how businesses that convert paper, film, and foil can continuously increase their productivity by using IT-assisted processes in every area, as well as on how they can seamlessly link their production and ERP operations. Or, more specifically, on how this can be achieved by using the company’s pre-configured, industry-specific “T.CON All-in-One Rolls” software package, which is designed to be quickly implemented. To achieve this, the industry-specific solution combines the advantages behind SAP ERP with those behind T.CON’s MES CAT Suite, a cutting-edge manufacturing execution system that is not only fully integrated into SAP ERP, but has also been certified as “Powered by SAP NetWeaver.”

This powerful combination enables businesses not only to get a transparent overview of operational data and value streams, but also to smoothly incorporate data and KPIs from their shop floors into their overall information flow. The result? The ability to quickly and flexibly adapt production processes to new market requirements, all while increasing machine efficiency and improving product quality. The best-practice template expands and enhances standard SAP processes by adding specific functions that reflect T.CON’s comprehensive know-how and years of experience with the converting industry. For example: reel, roll, film, and foil tracking; cutting plans; cut optimization; formulation management; and web defect identification during production. Not to mention roll distribution patterns, which make it possible to easily track which parent rolls were used to make the individual packages delivered to each customer.

Converting businesses that already use SAP ERP can also benefit from T.CON’s software. In fact, implementing T.CON’s MES CAT Suite as a standalone application can enable them to achieve vertical real-time integration between their shop floor and ERP environments. The MES solution automatically acquires data and KPIs from manufacturing systems – virtually at the same time they are produced – and transfers the information to the ERP system, which can then process and update this information immediately. Not only that, but the MES CAT Suite can also work offline, ensuring that manufacturing systems will be continuously available. And, finally, “MES CAT mobile,” a mobile app for iPads, enables managers to access the latest work orders, capacity utilization levels, and important MES KPIs on the go, allowing them to make quick decisions at any moment.

T.CON will also be showcasing its “Mobile Maintenance Management” (MMM) and “Mobile Warehouse Management” (MWM) add-on solutions for SAP ERP at ICE Europe. The MMM application not only enables service technicians to submit confirmations and malfunction reports to the ERP backend directly through their mobile devices, but also to access information that is relevant to their work (such as master data, the latest notifications, and work instructions). This not only ensures that technicians will be able to carry out all their work on-site, but also helps establish proactive and predictive maintenance strategies.

Meanwhile, the mobile MWM application is designed to improve transparency and efficiency when it comes to a business’ internal warehouse logistics. It makes it possible to conveniently post stock placements, stock transfers, picking operations, and packing operations in real time, after which it automatically transfers the corresponding data records to the SAP backend via WLAN so that they can be immediately posted and the system will reflect the material flows at the warehouse right away.  These mobile add-ons can be installed on a PDA, a tablet computer, or a smartphone.
