Berliner Glas receives flexible mobile solution for maintenance of complex systems

In recent years, the business of Berliner Glas, one of the world's leading suppliers of key optical components, has grown strongly. The company manufactures precision optics and assemblies for the semiconductor industry, medical technology and laser and space technology on more than 30,000 square meters of production space.

For this purpose, the company operates 900 to 1,000 individual systems. The bandwidth is enormous, ranging from CNC machines to microscopes. The diversity of the systems means that a large number of parts has to be inspected regularly and many replacement parts have to be kept in stock.

No more Excel and paper printouts for maintenance organization

For a long time, maintenance planning was done decentrally by the production departments using Excel. Based on this information, purchasing and controlling had difficulty determining how high the maintenance costs were for individual machines.

In the process of an SAP digitization project, the topic of maintenance in SAP was therefore also addressed. The use of a mobile maintenance solution was firmly planned for the digitization of maintenance. The fact that long distances could be avoided, and maintenance processes better planned was part of the ROI calculation.

SAP Mobile Maintenance: Information from Maintenance

The fact that technicians use their own mobile devices with the help of the T.CON MOBILE MAINTENANCE SAP PM solution now offers many advantages. MOBILE MAINTENANCE reduces the distances and thus the time per job. Using start/stop functionalities, times are recorded more accurately. Step by step, this creates the basis for using information from maintenance to a much greater extent than before for optimizing processes and maintenance plans.

The maintenance team can also adapt applications to new requirements themselves, always working with convenient FIORI apps.
